I have pretty much no experience of maternity care in resource poor settings but this looks like a great initiative. Spread the word!
Maternal Health
41 women will die every hour from pregnancy related causes, 99% of these deaths occur in developing countries. So many of these deaths could be prevented through delivering education and training to the front line health workers on simple, life saving techniques. Respectful Maternity Care White Ribbon Alliance and Medical Aid Films have collaborated to produce a new animation focused on women’s rights in childbirth. The film highlights seven points in White Ribbon Alliance’s Universal Rights of Childbearing Women Charter, and will be used as part of a Respectful Maternity Care package developed to ensure engagement and support for healthcare providers to provide RMC.
The film follows Aziza, a health worker who is learning about respectful maternity care, as she looks after Mama who is giving birth to her baby.
The film is free to view and download at www.medicalaidfilms.org. Please do use it, share with others and send your feedback (to them, not me!). To stay in touch, sign up to their newsletter, follow on Twitter or find on Facebook. For more information, contact Josie@medicalaidfilms.org.
